Current processors have enough horsepower, memory and disk to run several operating systems concurrently. Virtualization allows processors to be more efficiently utilized and/or to run several different operating systems; great for when you want to run Linux but need to generate a program or document that's bug for bug compatible with one written on a different one.
It's also useful for testing different operating systems or features without having to dual boot or adversely affect your main machine.
The panel will describe what virtualization is and compare some of the major approaches such as VMware, Xen, KVM, and Virtual Box and possibly others.
