An introduction to the purpose and practice in an Ottawa-area coding dojo through the lens of a software project. This talk will trace the construction and maintenance of a tool called RSSQ - a programmer's companion for tracking user stories. This project is the 'sandbox' for the programmers who practice at the dojo: we use RSSQ as a common context to explore programming techniques. We will also explore the role of free software and it's relation to the learning process of the journeyman programmer.

Don Kelly is an Ottawa-area programmer with a decade's worth of time in the software industry. His first exposure to Linux and free software was in the early 1990's while trying to run PennMUSH on an donated 486. For those who might wonder: his preferred editor is Emacs.
