Django Web Development Framework

Redesigning the OCLUG web site with Django

Speaker: Ian Ward

This talk will cover the steps that were taken to build a new version of the OCLUG web site using the Django web development framework. Django has excellent documentation and a very good tutorial online. This talk does not follow the tutorial but instead tries to show how Django's features fit the needs of OCLUG's web site. Features discussed include:

  • Sites and applications
  • Request handling and middleware
  • Data models
  • Database object-relational mapper
  • Admin interface
  • Templates
  • Authentication (users and groups)
  • Flatpages and redirects
  • Syndication (RSS feeds)
