Software Freedom Day

Software Freedom Day 2010 - Sept 18

Special Event: Software Freedom Day

Date: September 18, 2010 at 10 a.m.
Location: Umi Café

“Software Freedom Day (SFD) is a worldwide celebration of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS). Our goal in this celebration is to educate the worldwide public about the benefits of using high quality FOSS in education, in government, at home, and in business – in short, everywhere! The non-profit organization Software Freedom International coordinates SFD at a global level, providing support, giveaways and a point of collaboration, but volunteer teams around the world organize the local SFD events to impact their own communities.” ~ http://softwarefreedomday.org

In celebration and promotion of this event, OCLUG (and possibly other local groups) will meet and greet the public at Umi Café. We will have an installfest and demonstrations of free and open source software, distribute CDs and brochures, and discuss what software freedom means and why it is important.

There is still much to be done to put this event together, so please visit http://devel.oclug.on.ca/wiki/SoftwareFreedomDay2010 if you are interested in helping.
