Speaker: Brian Tiffin

COBOL, an acronym for COmmon Business Oriented Language, dominates the world's financial transaction computing arena with 200 billion lines in production and 5 billion lines of new code added each year.

Rumours of the death of COBOL are highly exaggerated.

OpenCOBOL offers developers the freedom of Open Source merged with the legacy of one of the most widely used programming languages in history.

The speaker will give an overview of current OpenCOBOL efforts such as; bindings for libCURL, IPC Message Queues, and templates for access to gnuplot.

30 - 40 minutes.


Django Web Development Framework

Django 1.0 and the OCLUG Web Site

Speaker: Ian Ward

Django, a high-level Python Web framework, is being used to run the OCLUG website.

The speaker will give an overview of the Django features responsible for the look and maintenance of the current website as well as features used to migrate the previous website information.

20 - 30 minutes.


About the Speaker

Ian Ward's blog and a number of open source projects are hosted at http://excess.org/. He has studied Computer Science at Carleton University and the University of Ottawa. He was first introduced to Linux in 1999 while working at Corel.
