The Ottawa Canada Linux Users Group invites you to attend their annual general meeting.

==== Board Election ====

At this meeting, 6 candidates will be elected to the board of directors. Candidates may self-nominate by adding themselves to [[http://oclug.on.ca/wiki/index.php/BoardElection2006|this list]].

The candidates will each have 2 minutes to tell you about themselves and explain why they are running for the board of directors. Once the speeches are over, members will be invited to cast their ballots.


===== Urwid =====

This talk will include a brief discussion on Console User Interfaces and an introduction to [[http://excess.org/urwid|Urwid]], a console user interface library for Python. Urwid handles most of the tedious and error-prone aspects of UI development. Listeners will not need an understanding of the Python programming language, but some programming experience will help to get the most out of the talk.

==== About the Speaker ====

[[http://excess.org|Ian Ward's blog]] and a number of open source projects are hosted at http://excess.org/. He has studied Computer Science at Carleton University and the University of Ottawa. He was first introduced to Linux in 1999 while working at Corel.

===== mom and groff =====

Speaker: [[history:speaker:16|Peter Schaffter]]\\

In addition to covering the basics of groff (GNU troff) and the mom macro set, Schaffter's talk will touch on the strengths of the Unix philosophy, an introduction to text processing with GNU/Linux, recommendations for facilitating text processing, and will also provide an introductory tutorial on document processing with groff and mom.

==== About the Speaker ====

Peter Schaffter is the author of the mom macro set for groff, and, as such, is part of the development team responsible for re-vitalizing Unix's powerful and flexible troff typesetting system. A novelist, classical pianist, composer and champion of free software, he currently lives in Gatineau, Quebec.
